Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2023, Friday. Black beer, tan lacing. Aroma and Taste of bourbon, vanilla, sweet dark malt, raisins, boozy finish.

Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout by a brewery I had never heard of, sampled at BCBF ’23. Yellowish beige, open ring of foam on ink black robe. Aroma of melting dark chocolate, toasted coconut, candied date, treacle, toffee, bourbon, vanilla (including oak wood), coffee grounds. Densely sweet onset (blackberry jam, sirop de Liège) with the sweetness mitigated by light umami (porcini, gravy), softly carbonated with very full body; layers of toffee, dark chocolate, roasted walnuts and eventually mild coffee fill the mouth, their general bittersweetness highlighted by warming bourbon and bright vanilla accents. Some spicy hops and dark fruitiness linger along the bourbon and thick bittersweet malts. Very classically made but also very solid, a bit old school perhaps but that is exactly how I like my BBA stouts.

Draft. A black beer with a thin dark brown head. The aroma has notes of bourbon, vanilla, alcohol, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of bourbon, vanilla, alcohol, wood, and roasted malt, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. Way too much Bourbon, not rounded or refined.
