Ever since the Viking era, the Christmas beer tradition has been strong in Norway. As stated in the 'Gulatingsloven' (a regional law text valid until 1274), every farmer was bound by the law to brew beer for Christmas and christen it according to the new faith, otherwise running the risk of losing his assets to the king and bishop. The Christmas beer was normally brewed from the best grain of the season and would be strong with a rich malt flavour. Ringnes Julebokk (Christmas Bock) is a doppelbock brewed with only the best malts - and plenty of it.
Ringnes Christmas Bock is rich in taste with a complex aroma of roasted malt, coffee, leather, spices, dried fruit and some notes of red wine. The colour is dark with a ruby hue. The taste is complex and full-bodied with a rich bitterness.

Bottle bought at Vinmonopolet, tasted at home. Pours dark brown with little tanned head. Aroma of nuts, dried fruits, caramel. Some roasty flavors. Smooth mouthfeel. Distinct bitter finish. This beer proves that Ringnes is able to brew good tasting beers as well!

33cl bottle (2008 vintage - enjoyed in December 2019). Pours clear dark mahogany without too much head to speak of. Have had this one several times fresh too - often it's not that good the first year, but then next year and the years that follow it improves a great deal. This 11 year old one might be slightly over the top, but it's still great. Definitely oxidized, and the initial smell and feel reminds me more of port wine, than beer. With more temperature and air it opens up a bit and the caramelly, malty notes becomes obvious too, hints of spices and toasted malt too. Rather vinous and desserty, sweet, but still somehow balanced and quite smooth and enjoyable. It definitely ages well, and it's a nice winter warmer. --- Beer merged from original tick of Julebokk on 28 Oct 2024 at 09:19

Pours dark brown with a small head. Aroma is roasted malts and grain. Not overly complex, but still quite nice. Full body with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet with chocolate malts, dark fruits, notes of anise as well as some alcohol that ends in a long sweetly finish.

Skuffende ifht tidl år. Alkoholisk og ikke veldig balansert. Denne tror jeg trenger et års lagring, eller flere.

330ml bottle at 9.0%, cheers Cunningham. Pours a very dark, hazy brown with a small head. Aroma is burnt toffee and apple. Taste has lots of caramel with apple on the finish. Some burnt notes, also. Thick and chewy.
