Death by Chocolate Cake. What would happen if we took one of the nation’s best loved, super-indulgent desserts for inspiration, and applied it to our most indulgent beer? Even more cacao nibs, even more Cypress wood, even more depth. It’s doubled down and ramped up to imperial strength. The Amburana is still critical. Its spicy, fragrant spirals impart all kinds of different flavours, not dissimilar to the complexity of tonka beans. It's remarkable how we all seem to pick up something different from them.

10.2 abv. Black. Aroma is dark chocolate cinnamon syrup cocoa and a heavy tree like mediterannean thing (probably the cypress) some quinoa as well. Taste is intense chocolate with wood and quinoa, quite sweet syrupy with a little cocoa at the back. Finish of much cinnamon and chocolate syrup. Incredibly dense and amazing. Although the aroma is a bit weird

Can from Gedeelde Vreugde. Cloudy black, small, foamy, beige head. Aroma of brownie, fondant sauce, dark fudge, dried fig, ripe plum, wood, sweet espresso, vanilla, vague pineapple. Taste has sweet fig & plum in a thick chocolatey malt body with caramel and soft bitter coffee, some creamy vanilla. Peppery hoppy finish, lingering fondant, woody vanilla and burnt wood, cream, warming brandy-like alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Cacao and lactose are very much present but the wood lends delicate balance to this 'Pastry'.

Pours black, red shine, see trough. No real head. Scent is roasty, some cinnamon. hidden chocolate. Taste is medium intense, cinnamon, sharp expression by the cinnamon-like features of the Amburana. Not that coffee forward. OK.

Bottle share at Hopdog München, Tuesday 9th November 2021 with Ratebeer group and Will from work. Pours black with a filmy beige head. Lots of tonka bean, coffee, vanilla, chocolate, in fact lots of chocolate, super smooth, this is literally puréed caribbean chocolate cake with a black forest gateaux twist and coconut, it's wonderful stuff.
