Death by Chocolate Cake. What would happen if we took one of the nation’s best loved, super-indulgent desserts for inspiration, and applied it to our most indulgent beer? Even more cacao nibs, even more Cypress wood, even more depth. It’s doubled down and ramped up to imperial strength. The Amburana is still critical. Its spicy, fragrant spirals impart all kinds of different flavours, not dissimilar to the complexity of tonka beans. It's remarkable how we all seem to pick up something different from them.

Sample thanks to Cloin: Poured a pitch black with a tan to light brown head. Aroma is so cake like, lactose, chocolate, doughy. Taste is liquid goodness, chocolate, doughy, vanilla, rich roasted malts, cocao, booze is hidden although a light tingle in the finish.

Minimal beige head left a collar on a dark brown still body. Oak, berrry, dark chocolate & boozy aroma. Full bodied, oily, slick & greasy with no carbonation. Dark chocolate, syrup, jam, berries, apple & concentrated juice tastes.

Can at home, from Siren online, 25/12/20. Pitch black with a well presented khaki cap of bubbles that stays for the show. Nose is dark malts, dried fruits, mellow roast, boozey tunes, molasses, vanilla essence, cacao nibs, spice. Taste comprises dark chocolate, spice rack, cinnabuns, mellow roast, coffee bean, cacao nibs, wooded tones. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Solid stuff ... good roasted bite add to this the wooded effect and light herbal elements keep this one from ever becoming overly sweet.

Can at home picked up from HOTM. A jet black coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head that cascades. Aroma is rich spiced fruit cake, dark choc, woodland berries, chocolate gateaux, hint of cinnamon. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, rounded, rich fruit cake, dark choc, light treacle. Sweetness is very nicely in check by the bitter chocolate hit. Palate is rounded, good sweetness, mellow carbonation, full bodied. Lingering chcolate and some raspberry ripple action. Marvellous.

Can is caco nibs, milk chocolate, vanilla, a fresh woody smell, hint of coconut, touch of cola, hint of coffee, drinking chocolate. Taste is very chocolatey indeed, milk chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, cream, dark chocolate ice cream, condensed milk, sweet malt, leading to a very lightly spiced finish, lots of dark cherry, caramel, fudgey, slight woodiness in the finish with the spice and a little booze which stops it being cloying. Really enjoyed this

Fairly thick and a bit oily. Sweet, somewhat boozy, dark chocolate, some coffee. Smooth, nicely balanced. Wasn't a massive fan of the base version, but this is very nice.
