Geachte Mensheid,
Hoogminachtend,
Team Uiltje

Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Coffee, roast and vanilla upfront with moderate coconut. Also some caramel, roasty finish. Mild to medium sweet, some bitterness as well. Above medium body. Nice, would have liked more coconut

Donkerbruin bier met schuim. Smaak is bitterzoet mert iets van koffie, wat chocolade, noten en vanille. Heeft een licht romig mondgevoel. Fijn en goed drinkbaar bier met en zachte smaak.

Can at Cups & Mugs. Med-full body, medium carbonation. Med-high bitterness, lots of roast, coffee. Light sweetness and roasty astringency. Rather light coconut, rather woody. It is a bit aggressive, but good, intense.

New variant in Uiltje’s classic ‘CC’-themed porter series, now under Swinkels. Thanks to Hinke for sharing the can! Medium thick, moussey, pale mocha-beige, quite stable head, blackish very dark brown robe with ruddy edges. Aroma of stale coconut flakes rather than exotic fresh coconut, fudge, cocoa powder, blue cheese, walnut shells, brown bread crust, less pleasant background notes of something chemical (insect repellent a lmost) and withering kale. Dryish onset, dried blackberries and figs, softish carb, smooth body with walnutty, hard-caramelly and brown-bready core, combining with roasted chicory-like bitterness and leafy hops, but also that stale coconut flake aroma – even though it remains relatively subtle, in all, perhaps even a bit too much so for a porter carrying ‘coconut’ in its name. Coffeeish bitterness (but too little actual coffee aroma) and something wry linger in the end. Needs more creaminess, more fresh aromas and a cleaner, more streamlined profile; significantly less satisfying than the original ‘CC: Porter’ I remember, are these the first cracks in Uiltje’s once impeccable quality standard now that they were taken over by Bavaria? Or did I just stumble upon a bad can somehow? One to revisit, I guess…

Black with a frothy, beige head. Dark chocolate. Marshmallows. Taste is bittersweet. Definitely sweet for a traditional porter. (didn’t know there’s was coconut in here when sampling) Medium-bodied, chewy. Good balance. Nice way to end the night at ‘t Taphuys.

Very dark brown with quick fading head. Aroma and flavour have sweet chocolate and toasted nuts. Luckily no Bounty but still a bit too sweet.

On tap at Craft and Draft, Amsterdam on 25th November 2023. Intensely sepia black with tan foam and full lacing. Rich and intense roast malt aroma and in-mouth, with coffee, dark chocolate and hints of cherry fruits. A lush roasty malt finish. Full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.
