The Rusty Nail begins life as The First Nail, an oatmeal stout of epic proportions with brewer’s licorice, smoked barley, and pale malt and is then aged on cinnamon bark. She becomes The Rusty Nail after spending 15 months in 12-year old bourbon barrels. The Rusty Nail pounds your palate, challenges your perception of all that you’ve known of beer, and leaves you wanting … another sip. “A fine beer may be judged by one sip, but it’s better to be thoroughly sure.” – VWP.

Opaque petroleum black with a small tan head. toasted malt, roasted barley, chocolate, coffee, dried fruit, vanilla, oak tannins, light smoke, floral hop, warming alcohol. Light sweet & bitter. Balanced. Dense. Very good.

Ol reliable delicious licorice stout even for those that don't like licorice. Soft chocolatey coconut licorice vibes all over. Perfect mouthfeel as always.

Intense dark sweet malty with so much going on, high complexity at play with lots of cooca and liquorice, brown sugar, caramel intwined, full body, bourbon soaked lingering malty close. Gorgeous.

2023 edition. Very dark brown body, no head. Licorice and cinnamon on caramel in the aroma, didn't get much smoke. Lean, dry taste, pleasant, again licorice and cinnamon over light chocolate. Fresh-seeming, dryish, pretty nice! Dare I say excellent?
