Dryhopped Italian Style Rye Pilsner.

Not many brewers achieve in life to create a beer that turns into an (almost) official beer style, that is copied by other brewers all around the world. But that is exactly what Agostino Arioli has done. Agostino is the mastermind behind one of Italy’s oldest and most well renowned breweries, Birrificio Italiano, founded in Lombardy in 1996. And as with most of the greatest beers of this world, simplicity is the key. Take a German style Pilsner as your base beer and then dryhop the hell out of it – not with potent, beefed up modern aroma hops - but with subtle German noble hops. Et voilà, you suddenly have a crisp European Pilsner made even more enticing with those floral notes found in that kind of hops. That’s how Tipo Pils was created, and how Italian Style Pilsners were born. A beer tasting beer made for drinking. That’s it. When we realized that Agostino was coming to Copenhagen, we reached out to him and asked if he would like to come play with us at Amager. And much to our pleasure, he said yes. TipoRye is the result of that play date. A Tipo Pils as the base but given a Nordic touch with the addition of 25% rye malt for a little more spice and a slightly fuller body. But still a simple and quaffable beer, just as we intended.
This beer is a collaboration made with Birrificio, Italiano, Lombardy, Italy.

Can, 0.44l. Aroma is citrusy, floral, piney and grainy with melon note. Pours cloudy golden color with medium sized soapy white head, good lacing and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts refreshing fruity and grainy, following is yeasty, citrusy and slightly herbal, mouthfeel is quite smooth, although crisp, while finish is pretty bitter. Medium body, oily texture and lively carbonation in palate. No typo in the recipe…

Can. It's a clear, golden colored beer with a nice looking white head. Cute lacing too. The aroma has a nice fruityness along with a good spiced touch from the rye. Some grass and generic pale malts, pine cones and lemon zest. It's full bodied and a bit sweet on the palate, a tad gentle on the carbonation too I think. Fruity flavor with a light peppery hint. Pine cones, grass, notes of apple and pear. Some lemon zest and bitterness. Medium length finish. Sure a nice one, and the rye malt isn't a bad idea, but overall the beer feels too sweet. I'd like it crisper, and wouldn't mind a bit more bitterness too. Nice anyway though. 240413

Can @ home. Clear golden body under a nice white head. Nice, strong aroma of pilsner malt, herbal noble hops, grass, hay and a hint of pine. Taste is sweet malt, bread, soft rye, grass, hay, hint of pine, herbal and floral noble hops and balancing bitterness. Balanced body and pleasant aftertaste dominated by grassy and herbal hops. Nice to taste something such original with the roots from the classic style. We have almost forgotten the taste of non-fruity hops these days.

Canned, huge thanks HP! Clear golden body, white head. Lightly floral aroma, herbal notes, rye, maltiness. Malty, floral taste, bit fruity, bit herbal, sweetish, no bitterness almost. Okay, feels slightly dead, but kinda works too, bit disappointing, but it's likely the travel that killed it, would like to try it on tap fresh.

7-3-7-4-14 Can #2933, nine months before bbd. Pours hazy yellow, with a creamy head. Aroma is pilsner malts with bread crust and spicy notes of rye, as well as floral hops with citrusy notes and grassy minerals. Medium body, with soft to average carbonation. Flavour is pilsner malts with white bread, hay, honey and spicy notes of rye, as well as floral hops with grass and leafy minerals. Nice spicy touch of rye, but a bit on the sweet side.
