Keg at The Hard Rock Cafe, London. Black with a beige head. Metallic & watery was my first impression, and, as it turned out, my over-riding impression. Some chocolate, black coffee and dirt does eventually come through, but mainly this just tastes industrial. Which I guess is what Camden are these days.

23/3/2025. Draft at The Oliver Twist, Great Yarmouth. Pours maroon black with a firm creamy pale tan coloured head. Aroma is mildly roasted, nutty, chocolate, coffee, caramel. Moderate sweetness, light roasted bitterness. Moderate body, slightly watery, soft carbonation. Lacks body but it’s an easy drinker and preferable to Guinness.

Can at home in Hackney - sourced from local Sainsbury’s. Pours clear, deep brown with a tame, creamy khaki head. Light sweet flavour with subtle roast, burnt toast, a little dry milk chocolate, earth, leaves. Light bodied with delicate carbonation. Smooth enough in the finish, a little spent tobacco, earth, ash. Drinks fine, pretty mellow overall.
