A throwback to the original Vienna lager recipes of the 1840s, our take – a markedly paler version than many modern examples – showcases the classic Vienna malt. Volksgarten is characterized by aromas of honey and biscuit, subtle toasted almond character on the tongue, and a complimentary spicy herbal hop note from the Czech Saaz.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear orange gold with a finger of white foam that dissipates. Honey and biscuit malty aromas with a touch of peppery and grain husk as it warms. Full bodied mouthfeel with a nice well-rounded honey note, followed by peppery spice on the finsh. Very nice.

16 oz can from Justin, thanks Cosmo, 10/3/23. Unclear darker rusty golden color. Biscuit, dough, grains. Honey and herbal notes. Spice and earth hints as well. Giving off strong fall vibes for a non seasonal. Super drinkable. Tons of malty flavors. Really quality stuff.

On tap at The Tip Tap Room in Boston. Brassy gold pour. Small white head. Earthy, toasted malt aroma hints at spicy hops. Flavor mirrors nose. A hint of toasted bread and mild citrus. Smooth, complex and flavorful. Outstanding.

16 oz. can. Aroma has soft cracker with a note of toffee. Everything in the flavor is subtle. Toffee, bread-like malt, very soft herb in the finish. What’s great is the crisp, dry texture that’s extremely refreshing. Nice!

Pours deep clear gold into a pils. Bright white head with excellent retention recedes leaving spidery sheets. Multigrain sourdough and straw aromas. Medium bodied with sweet summer pit fruit and honey upfront turning to caramel and earthy herbed pie crust before the medium length bark finish.

Canned 12/1/22, drunk 1/6/23. Lighter golden for a Vienna with high clarity and a small, off-white head showing moderate retention. Mineral, biscuit, a speck of toasted grain and soft, easygoing, herbal hops make for a balanced nose that is malt and yeast-focused. More bready and nutty as it warms. Soft and malty, good depth and texture with high attenuation and lots of biscuit, honey and almond. Mineral from the yeast and pleasant herbal bitterness. Don't know enough about the historic Vienna to say whether this is true to style (I suspect it is), but it certainly tastes A LOT better than most contemporary, over-toasted, overly bready Viennas.
