Keg @ Northern Monk Refectory, Manchester. Black with a thin light-brown head. Aroma quite boozy with hints roasted available. These hints become better in taste with a little bit of sweetness involved, with a bit of honeycomb lingering in its aftertaste.

440ml can from Morrisons, Shrewsbury. Quaffed while chopping vegetables. Oily pitch black pour with a tan head that grows out the glass. Gorgeous aroma, desert sweet with soft roast. Flavour profile builds on this with a wonderfully full smooth mouthfeel and an alluring sweetness, chocolatey, cakey, a touch caramelly.. just very satisfying.

Can from Morrisons Inverurie. It pours jet black with small deep tan head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, dark roasted malt, decadent chocolate ice cream, coffee cake, sticky, sugary, praline and ferrero rocher. The taste is bitter - sweet, slick, oily, thick, sweet, sugary, dark roasted malt, espresso coffee, loads of chocolate, gateaux, chocolate covered coffee beans, cake frosting, charred, ashy, praline, Nutella, nip of spice and a kick of booze with a slick, decadent finish. Fulsome body and fine carbonation. Decadent, yes but manageable. Could be done with a touch more carbonation. Not bad.

440ml can. Pitch black with a tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee roast. Taste of dark chocolate, dark malts, coffee, roast, liquorice, strong bitterness. Medium bodied. Solid trad stout but describing it as decadent on the can is seriously embellishing.

Black beer, light tan head. Light, sweet aroma of malt. Flavour has sweet and toasty malt, dark chocolate, a bit earthy, maybe a little liquorice. Rich, with a little carbonation. Warming, boozy finish. Not bad.

Can. Morrison’s. Well roasted chocolate and coffee malt. Slightly earthy and rusty. Taste is sweet up front. Earthy slightly metallic bitterness. Sticky overall. Long eathy bitterness to finish. Ok at best.
