16oz can. Chunky thick black body. Big, steady tan-beige head. Roasty, oily aroma. Big in some respects, but kind of a hollow center, almost like a nitro. Thick, sticky specialty malt tones. The wheat gives it a little depth, Big and rich, approaching Double Black IPA. Solid offering, enjoyable.

Can - nearly black pour - thick, soapy, tan lace - nose of woody and citric hops, pretty resinous, with a healthy dose of malt roastiness, som chocolate, toasted cocoa beans - the hop character is also a little sweaty and cheesy at times - oily, slick mouthfeel - low carbonation - taste is bittersweet chocolate, burnt peanut husks, heavily sweetened coffee - hops arrive late - bitter, woody, fairly acidic, leading into a moderately alcoholic finish - messy.

Good black IPA. Pours a thick, dark brown, with small, quickly dissipating, creamy head. Aroma dominated by roasted grain, with some hops, coffee, chocolate. Flavor is marked by coffee, chocolate, roasted grain, some leather, and hops. Finish has a bit of a burnt toast touch to it. Good stuff.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, no canning date. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, floral, grass, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, char, toast, and floral/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops and deep roasted malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, citrus rind, floral, grass, pine, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, light char, and floral/roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, toast, light char, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of citrus/floral hop and dark roasted malt flavors; with a great malt/hop balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, smooth, and moderately crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent black IPA. All around great balance of citrus/floral hops and dark roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on Valentine’s Day...half way through the month of Feb! I’m surprised by the lower ratings on this because this is a pretty great black IPA. Appearance is a moderately thick pitch black with a rich tan head that laces to the glass. Aroma of floral hops and light chocolate & cocoa. Taste is really fantastic for this one, a really nice blend of chocolate and hazelnut, with a great bitterness that is a bit subtle, finishing with even more nutty, cocoa notes. When I saw \"IPA\" on the can I wasn’t expecting this. The mouthfeel is lightly oily. Really really great flavor, very good stuff.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. From notes. Roasty chocolate with floral and pine hops. Pretty good, better than expected.

22oz bottle I picked up at Schneider’s. Pours a oily opaque black with some creamy beige head. Nose has some toast, dried malt, coffee grounds, brown sugar, rubber band, some dried lemon peel, a little dusty couch. Flavor has a lot of rubber, malt, toast, burnt caramel, orange, pine, soap, coffee ground, dirt. Earthy finish.
