Anbai literally means “Salty Plum” and the word is also used to describe the stat of taste and flavor. Ii Anbai means “just right”!

Hitachino Nest Anbai Ale is brewed based on the high alcohol version (7%) of the siganture beer Hitachino Nest White Ale, infused with locally grown green sour plum (ume), and finished up with a pinch of Japanese sea salt (moshio). The balance of sourness, bitterness, comes from the plum and subtle saltiness, great umami taste of the sea salt is “Ii Anbai - just right!”

Poured a clouded orange brown from bottles. Salty finish, some sticky plum and sour heavy. Pretty interesting

Bottle from Hopt. Candied fruit aroma with sweet plum, apricot, notes of candied grapefruit and spicy yuzu. Fairly sweet flavour with a light tartness and a little salt. Body is medium. Very fruity but of the sweet candied variety, lacks tartness.

330ml bottle as part of a delivery from HOTM, York. Drunk at home. It's a middle sort of gold, hazy, very little head. Sweet plum, grassy notes, slightly sickly perfume. More sweet notes on the tongue with a bitter/sour finish. Not particularly balanced. Body's a bit watery with good fizzy carbonation. It's odd. I want to like it more than I do.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines Sheffield. Soft haze on a medium gold. Fine lasting white foam. Nose has salted plums. So there you go. Taste is savoury and lightly tart. A bit how you’d imagine salted plums to be. Easy drinking at the 7.5%. Foamy and moreish. Savoury finish. Bit odd. Nice though.
