This year at Goose Island, we are celebrating 36 years of brewing Chicago’s beer. For the occasion, we were fortunate enough to get our hands on not one, but two separate sets of “Birthday” bourbon barrels. Starting with our imperial rye stout, we aged this beer in the first set of barrels for a full year. Wanting to really showcase those exceptional barrels, we transferred that beer to a second set of freshly emptied “Birthday” barrels.
Raising a toast to another year of incredible beer, this elegant stout threads together a spirited and lightly herbal barrel personality with a balance of caramelized sugar. As sophisticated as it is delicious, our limited release Dapper Rye is a fête in barrel-aged stouts.

On tap at Bottle Theory. Pours an oily black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has strong dark grains and rye with some barrel and a decent amount of roast. Flavor has lots of roast and rye with growing dark grain and barrel supporting.

Super nice, smooth, strong and powerfuæ bourbon and roasted malts above average even for GI.
Flavor is lots of barrel aged craracter and a bit oxidation, roasted malts, licorice coconut, vanilla, mostly roasted malts. Very very faint dark caramel note
Holds it's high abv really well

Intense rye barrel notes, molasses, malts, stingy woody oakiness, vanilla, oak, toffee, syrup and earthiness. Whoa, quite heavy but complex slow sipper. Almost barley wineish. Awesome.

Tap at BPBW 2025, Blackish body... just basic notes - burning alcohol brings the otherwise quite pleasant rye-chocolate-raisin malty profile a bit down. Shame about that, but it's a good one.

Bourbon, wood, rye, chocolate malt, and fresh hay aroma. Black with small brown head. Moderately sweet bourbon, caramel chocolate rye malt, and moderately bitter grass and alcohol flavor. Nice body - boozy finish.
