Dark brown and quite chocolatey, rich malt, bready, bitterness is understated but nice.

Draught @ Christianssand Brygghus, Kristiansand
Pours ruby black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, licorice, oats and floral. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long chocolate, coffee and licorice finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at the brewpub. It’s a close to pitch black beer, topped by a creamy, light tan head of moderate size. The aroma is on the roasted side, not very complex, but pleasant. Some chocolate and a lovely touch of salty licorice. Some bitterness in the flavor, but as for the aroma it’s mostly roasted malts. Full body with soft carbonation. Lasting finish. Certainly a nice and tasteful one, well worth a revisit. 130720

On tap @ the brewpub. Clear, dark amber, almost black in body with a medium sized tan head. Aroma is dark, roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is sweet, hard roasted, dark malt, roasted coffee, some mocha and balanced fruity bitterness. Fine body and bitter, roasted malt in aftertaste. It’s too hard roasted to be as velvet smooth as the name indicates, still a really nice stout.
