In 2004, the city of Ostend commemorated the 400th anniversary of the 'Siege of Ostend' that took place from 1601 to 1604. At the request of the 'Oostendse Bierjutters', a group of enthusiastic beer geeks, this unique beer was created. What was intended to be a one-off brew for the festivities, has become an indispensable icon for Ostend.
The malt of this characteristic, golden blonde triple comes from the French region of Beauce-Gatinais. Together with the added German Munich malt both provide a full-bodied finish. A selection of 4 fine hop varieties from Germany, the Czech Republic, Great Britain and Belgium ensures a subtly balanced nose. The careful re-fermentation in the bottle ensures a firm, creamy head.

My order with belgiuminabox was supposed to have been for Keyte's quad, I got the tripel instead. Or strong pale Belgian ale as determined by RateBeer. Oh well, given lemons so turn it into lemonade. I do like tripels significantly anyway. I have my Teku glass working for this 33 cl offering. The liquid is an opaque yellow-orange with a top of frothy, nearly pure-white foam. The nose is yellow fruit, yeast and bread. A good drink delivers apricot, nectarine, a yeastiness, slightly sweet, cut hay and grain. It has a full sensation with it, the carbonation contributing to that I assume. Not bad, but certainly a distance from the best tripels I've had. Still stinging from the quad deal in any case.

Honey color, hazy. Honey aroma with citrusfruit. Creamy, hoppy citric flavor. Hints of detergent, yeast and honey. Thin to medium bodied. Not bad, could be better.

A blond beer, a head is big and white. Aroma is strongly fruity, perry, and then also some apples, hint of spices, simple. Taste has fruitness of perry, some generic spicyness. Medium bodied, high carbonation, as usual. Very simple, but when it's nicely brewed it's not a bad thing. Nice beer.

Golden court clear big white head. Aroma is citrus, orange, grapefruit with a beefy malts bashing that comes up after a while, together with some plum. A bit hard to chug down honestly, had much better triples. It ain’t bsd, just outclassed by others in the category.
