Öllenaut's take on the foreign stout style, tasted from tap at Kantien in Ghent. Very thick, towering high, creamy, regularly shaped, yellowish beige head over a jet black beer, revealing its ruddy brown hue only at the edges under bright light. Aroma of caramel candy, pear syrup, chestnut sauce, liquorice, leather, treacle, old dusty chocolate bars, black tea, wet dog. Sweet onset with sourish edges, plums, figs, hinting at pear and blue grape perhaps, rather vivid, sharpish carbonation, smooth caramelly and nutty malt sweetness with softly bittering sides - becoming much more outspokenly bitter (roasted) in the finish, yet remaining on the sweet side. Spicy hop bitterish notes and rum-like warming alcohol, with a herbal, tea-ish aspect lingering. Nice, very rounded, sweetish and caramelly - indeed like a typical foreign stout, but with a 'different' kind of herbalness to it.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Almost black, small tan head. Aroma: rich chocolate and cocoa powder, soy sauce and some rubber. The taste is more like a baltic porter - more malty than chocolaty, black treacle, bit salty and cheesy in the end. Solid grassy bitterness. Not bad, despite the cheese.
