For the second editon of The Heart of Darkness, we brewed an imperial stout with our friends from Finback Brewery. The beer rested in rum barrels before we added coffee and hazelnut. Hafgufa is a Sea monster from Norse Mythology sometimes described as a whale.

Bottle. A barely finger thick tan head forms over a black body. Some curtains form. The aroma has a pleasant boozy touch, sort of sugary, treacly too, with lots of licorice and roasted malts and a good dash of coffee, Some notes of soy sauce in the back. It's full-bodied, warming, super-smooth and with a good bitterness, trying to balance the sweetness. Coffee, roasted malts, licorice, dark rum, woody hints, some soy sauce, dark chocolate and a light burnt touch in the flavor. Some hazelnut finally showing up in the finish, but it's at a so low level I might not even had noticed if I didn't read the label. Anyway, although quite boozy, but not bad for a 13% beer, it's delicious and complex, and I bet it would be even better with some time in the cellar. 210220
