500ml bottle from Waitrose, Andover. Deep reddish brown with a film of cream head; aroma of peppery hops and earthy malts; creamy texture with milk chocolate and fruity malt flavours, slightly sour; very sweet and sugary finish with some coffee.

Cask (Guide Dog, Southampton) - Dark brown with red tinges. Roasted malt aroma with some hints of coffee. Coffee in the taste with roasted malt and chocolate.

On gravity at the Portcullis, Bristol 11/12/08. Near black with a slight tan head. Rich aroma of creamy chocolate, roasted malts and spice. Flavour was light and sweet, with plenty of chocolate, coffee and a decent bitter finish. Very good.

Bottle, 4.5%. Slightly smokey aroma. Clear very dark brown colour. Very small head. Dusty flavour, mild roastedness with a touch of smoke. A well-rounded porter.

Bottled. Rubyish amber colour, small white head. Coffee and roasted malts as well as quite muchchocolate in it. Flavour is roasted malts, some dark coffee and dry wood. Lots of taste and overall nice.

Hazy brown with tiny off white head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and mild smoky notes. Sweet flavor with smoke, roasted malt and mild coffee notes. Ends somewhat bitter.

Bottle at home ... Deep brown red ... light roast malt nose ... nice soft caramel roast ... lots of toffeee little coffee but quite mild little woddy... Really tasty but quite subdued ale.

Cask (gravity) @ The National Winter Ales Festival 2008, Manchester, UK. Clear dark brown color with a small, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, milk chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. (Thin and very easy to drink). Body is light to medium to medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft - flat. (190108)

[i] Bottle from Millets Farm shop August 07 [/i] Poured dark brown with ruby glint, some fruit on the nose. Taste was quite malty and sweet, good beer.

Bottled. Very dark red, small head. Aroma of aniseed, licorice and hay. Dryish with clean, light mouthfeel. Solidly malty with roasty burnt malt flavour. Roasty finish with good bitterness.
