Barley Wine brewed with only English ingredients. A blend of highly kilned and crystal malts, along with Golden Promise make up the backbone with its sweet, honey and toffee, caramel and dried fruit flavours. Sour cherries added during maturation contribute with complexity and a little tartness but without trespassing into fruited sour territory. This was brewed as 1000th gyle, thank you for your support!

Can ordered from Left Field Beer. Opaque dark brown. Thick fluffy foamy beige head. Aroma is boozy over tangy berries and underlying burnt caramel. Flavourwise it sour with a bitter edge over chewy malts and molasses. Medium bodied. Creamy. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. Big fruit Barley Wine.

Can from Caledonian Craft Beer Merchant. Hazy brown body with ruby highlights and a thin beige head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of cherries, toffee and liquorice. Flavour of cherry cola, caramel and sour cherry. Medium to full body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. An interesting and unusual barley wine.

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 24/09/24. Slightly unclear mahogany brown topped with a light beige cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is stewed fruits, vinous, herb, toffee, dried berry skins. Taste comprises toffee, dates, fruit cake mix, caramelised brown sugars, touch of tangy cherries. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced spike of alcohol. Tidy old skool leaning sipper.

Can. Just a light haze on this amber beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Light palate, mildly dry, good fine minerally carbonation. We have pretty decent caramel cream malts, albeit in a somewhat thin mouthfeel. Where you would normally expect rich ripe fruits to kick in, well, this does happen but their intro is somewhat hijacked by a light but tart cherry. Light finish. The cherry addition lightens and brightens this barleywine but to me, also missed the point of having a rich and rewarding brew. That said, this may be a corker in a few years, when the cherry has lost its edge. Overall still very good.
