A Sweet and Savory Treat
Introducing KBS Double Oaked. Our original KBS stout, brewed with coffee and chocolate, is aged for one year in select bourbon barrels, which introduces subtle notes of vanilla, cocoa and charred oak. After the aging is complete, we then finish KBS on fresh oak to amplify these flavors – thus creating KBS Double Oaked. Truly a sophisticated beer tailored for bourbon and beer enthusiasts alike.

12 oz bottle. Just realized this is 15 months old. Aroma is woody, chocolate, coffee, wet stone. Pours inky black with a half finger beige head that settles into a ring quickly. Taste is bittersweet, finishing dry, with flavors of bourbon barrel, cocoa, and coffee. Flavors seem a little muted at this stage, but it’s not bad.

Bottle.
A- Black color, black liquid, brown head.
A- Chocolate, oak.
F- Oak, slightly bitter finish, roasty, bakers chocolate.
T- Full body, slightly thin texture, average carbonation, slightly tangy finish.
O- Not the best KBS variant. Too much oak. Gave off some tangy notes and a bit drier that I would've liked. Okay.

12 oz. bottle. Pours black, with a fair, foamy, brown head. The nose is dark chocolate, heavy oak, nutty sherry, vanilla, cloves, light maple, and coconut. Sweet and malty and roasty, with a mild, pleasant bitterness. Heavy body, thick, and chewy. Aggressive, delicious, balanced, and quality. Lovely.

I've had a number of the KBS variants besides the original. How will Double Oaked stack up? A 12 oz bottle found at a Total Wine in northwest Las Vegas. Bottled on 9/24/24. A snifter takes the pour and I see a really dark brown body along with a light but steady skim of khaki tan foam. The nose is a good start, there is chocolate of course, a bit of coffee, malt and vanilla. A number of flavors are at work here, I get some bourbon while there is also chocolate, coffee, syrup, chocolate malt and wood. A decent imperial stout although coffee is not a preferred adjunct since it tends to overwhelm imo.

(Five variant KBS vertical) Poured from 355mL bottle (bottled 09.24.24 - 12%). Very dark brown with small beige head. Feint vanilla and oak, interesting combo. Again, slight body loss compared to original KBS, but still very nice.

Dark brown. Thin head. Lots of coffee on the nose, and some oak, too. On the palate, it's a bit light, with coffee, light roast, some oak, and a touch of bourbon. It's all just kind of okay though.
