Bottled at PBF. Black, small beige head. Rich licorice aroma. Full bodied with plenty of alcohol, tar and salty licorice. A lot of power, but much nuances. The bourbon does not a whole lot. Though this is far from bad I definitely prefer Braunsteins lager beers like their pilsener to their imperial stouts.

Bottled 1 ltre (PBF, courtesy of oh6gdx). Opaque black, small beige head, Tarry, smokey roasted aroma, not so much tobacco than in the normal version. Smooth palate. Tar licorice, smoke, medium-bodied. Very pleasant mouthfeel. Much smoother than "steel tank" version. Hands down the best Braunstein so far.

On tap at Copenhagen Beerfestival, thx Rene. It serves a black body under a small, brown head. Vinous aroma with roasted malts, coffee, alcohol and a little smoked ham note. Sweetness in the flavor, without the beer being on the sweet side, coffee, vinous flavors and some smoke as well. Full-bodied and dry in the mouth, quite warming. Bitter finish, both hoppy and roasted bitterness. A nice one, but I prefer the unbarreled or the Oloroso edition. (090515)

250ml available on tap and served at a fine drinking temperature at Plan B, Copenhagen. Dense and bubbly, tan head fading slowly and leaving solid laceworks on the glass. The content is almost black as pitch. Inviting aroma of sweet, dark chocolate malts and with notes of sappy liquorice. Vanilla oak in flavour with noticeable vapour from the bourbon barrel added by a well balanced blend of dark malts. Dry and roasted on the palate with notes of bitter liquorice. A good one and just the right drink after a delicious turkey salad (18.05.2009).

(Draught at Plan B, Copenhagen, 22 May 2009) Pitch black colour with lasting, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with chocolate, coffee and a touch of wood. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and hints of wood and vanilla. More than medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Nicely balanced with alcohol well hidden. Very nice beer.

CBF09. From tap. Pours black with a tan head. Smoked bourbon alcohol aroma with a distinct roasted note. Sweet roasted malt, light smoked. Mild bourbon accents. Smooth yet distinct bitterness. Into a dry malt flavoured finish.

On tap. Pours completely pitch black with a small light brown head. Sweetish aroma of hard roasted malt, a little licorice and a very vague whiff of bourbon. Medium-bodied, hard roasted malt and licorice and in the flavour the bourbon notes really come out. Yummy. Lightly sweet vanilla and a dry, malt bitter finish. 150509
