Can from some market in Tirana. Clear golden yellow color, white coca cola head. Aroma of light straw. Taste is watery and bland. Inoffensive.

Bottle in Albania. From old notes. Golden colour, white foam. Medium carbonation. Watery boring lager.

After washing my house, this was a quite refreshing lager in the heat.

Dull gold. Appley, flat with fusel notes. A cornucopia of faults in an oily-slick, heavy-bodied package. Bleh.

50cl can from a shop in Tirana. Drank it at the hotel in Budva, Montenegro. Pours golden with a white head. Sweet and malty and fairly well balanced, some bitterness in the finish. Quite drinkable, but not a great beer - certrainly not "The star of beers", but still a fairly decent pale lager from Albania. (2008-06-18)

May 2007: I bought this 50cl bottle at the International Green Week in Berlin (2007). The chap gave me a half pint mug and a vase glass with the beers name on, as soveiners, he was a smashing bloke, a real ambassador for his product and country. Those glasses were the ones I poured the beer into. I had already tried it on tap and while chatting to the stall holder he gave me a brochure all about the brewery and their expectations; very interesting stuff. German technical assistance has built the brewery, they only brew one beer at the moment, but more are on the way. This beer is available all over Albania and also in Kosovo and Montenegro. They are intending to export to Italy, Greece and Macedonia in the near future. The pilsner called Stela (Star) is a bright, light grain colour. A true pilsner in taste also, dry and clean. No sweetness at all, the mouthfeel is strong for this style of beer, The aroma, like most pilsners is fairly thin with hops and a light yeast smell. This is a very nice example of a European Pilsner and I will endevour to find it again on my travels.

1.5 l plastic bottle from a shop in Durres, Albania. Poured deep golden body with medium-smaller head. Sweetish malty aroma...and that’s it. More sweeter than bitter flavor with lot of cheesy malt and corn. Also a bit soapy. Medium long ugly corn finish. It was pretty bad, like a cheap supermarket beer. But even then, it’s not the worst beer in the country!

1.5l plastic bottle courtesy of and shared with heavy who found it in Albania (thanks!) Poured a golden body with a small white head. Faint oily, a bit grainy malty nose. Odd fakeish sweet fruitiness... soapy, perfumey blueberries. Corn, some light bitter hops. I’m usually oddly attracted to similar beers but not to this one. Just another low quality Albanian beer.

Canned, 0.5 L. Looks are good unexpectedly: clear yellow color, some carbonation, creating a nice creamy medium lasting white head. Aroma of horseblanket, barnyard, faint hops, some flowers. Brackish taste, metallic sour, some hops, some flowers. Dry palate. Aroma and taste are really bad.
