Each spring, hop growers dust off their pruning shears and trim the first shoots, bolstering the bines for a rich growing season. First Cut – a mouthful of silky Simcoe and a touch of mango – is a nod to this ritual, without which the world would be a less hoppy place.

12 oz. can shared by Chalumeaux. Almost clear orange color, head dried fast. Aroma is abundant in mango, pine and just a light hint of grass.

The fruit and the grass are balanced pretty well. Bitterness is on the lower end with a sweet mango finish. Medium body with a lower carbonation level. Nice brew , tastes good.

Bottle reads freshest by 06/02/17.
This was poured into a becher pint glass.
The appearance was a semi-hazy copper color with a sly transparency about it. Moderate carbonation was seen flowing to feed a quickly dissipating finger’s worth of white foamy head. Some filmy lace.
The aroma had the sweet mango pulp/juiciness up front. Caramel malt and toast amplify to blend. Sticky lingering blended mango to malty aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt tame. ABV felt right.
Overall, the hops seem separated from the malts and doesn’t seem to want to combine. Troeg’s does better, what was this? Hard stare, really? And I hope I just had a bad bottle.

12 oz bottle from Sparrow-Downtown. Pours a slightly hazed darker orange color with a sheeting, frothy off-white head. Aroma and flavor are fruity and sweet. Light hops. Drinks a little thin with a decent mouthfeel. Finishes just a little bitter. Drinks so easily. Torn on this one, I like some parts of it quite a bit. A little too sweet, a little thin. and the aroma is a little muted, yet, I somehow still quite like drinking it. Like I said, torn.
