500ml bottle – Pours a brown colour with a reddish tinge and an average sized mostly lasting light tan head. The aroma is medium roasted malts, brown bread, caramel, brown sugar and nutty notes. A moderately sweet malty taste, brown bread, roasted malts, dark fruit and sour cherry flavours with a drying sweet roasted finish.

Handpull cask at the West End Brewery's Fixed Wheel Tap Takeover. Mid- to dark brown, slightly translucent. It has a foamy uneven khaki/tan head. Light on the aroma: it's mostly malty with hazenut amd chocolate notes and maybe a touch of Marmite. Sweet taste but there is an astringent bitterness running through which dominates the finish and aftertaste. I like a strong mild but I think the astringency is too much for me. Cautiously recommended.

ORIGINAL REVIEW 19/8/19 : Cask at Floodgate, Stafford. Nose has nuts and malt loaf. Pours a rich ruby red brown with a nice creamy head. A bit thin in the mouth, but cherries and cough drops come through along with a general smoothy sweetness. Finish was grainy. Gave the impression that it wasn’t in the best condition. RERATE 30/4/21: Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Rerated because I couldn’t believe my original score. Can’t say I disagree with any of it though. This time I got liquorice and fruitcake in the mouth as well. Much better condition though, so score upped significantly.

GBBF Day 1. Cask. Clear amber beer, a few cream colour bubbles. Light palate, semi dry, almost no fine carbonation. Tangy malts, a little caramel. Very ripe and tangy fruits. Mild floral vibe. Ripe fruity finish. Dull cask nonsense and the antithesis of modern craft beer. Yawn.
