This unique beer is a blend of two separate, bourbon barrel-aged brews from the team at the Open Gate Brewery in Baltimore. Around 60% of the finished beer is a classic Imperial Stout, while an English Barleywine makes up the remaining 40%. Characteristic stout flavors like roast coffee, lightly bitter chocolate, and toasted bread are balanced by the sweeter notes of raisin, plum, and stone fruit from the Barleywine. Truly a one-of-a-kind beer.

Bottle. Brown with an amber hue. Small head. Aroma and taste is complex, very much like a high rated doppelbock.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt a huge coconut and oak barrel with some booze. Flavor is a minor roasted malt but all things bourbon barrel. Nice char oak with coconut and bourbon. Alcohol is here all over the place but not too heavy but just enough to warm the chest. This was awesome stuff! They got everything they could out of the barrel and then some. Average base beer but this is all about the bourbon barrel.

Bottle (2/14/19?) pour from BevMax, Hamden. Appearance is very, very dark (almost opaque) brown with nice sparkle, finger-width khaki head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong bourbon and caramel with hints of brown sugar and dark fruit. Taste is strong bourbon, caramel, hint of chocolate and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is light side of light-to-medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, soft carbonation, nice alcohol warmth and finish as taste. Overall, dominated by strong, but not overwhelming, bourbon but caramel comes through. I wish the chocolate and dark fruit came through a bit stronger.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brown with a creamy beige/tan had. Aroma of bourbon fighting with quite roasty malt. It's almost like candy. In a good way. Full body or nearly. Flavor is very roasty malt, turbinado sugar, bourbon. Not quite getting wood; I think the bourbon obscures it. Clearly high quality bourbon. Just excellent.
