In the Trees, our Brewer's Choice beer by Jon Peachey, is inspired by the folk horror writings of M R James. This brew reflects a stroll through an East Anglian pinewood, a good trudge along a coastal spit of Suffolk shingle or an amble down a leaf strewn, high hedged lane. Jon has chosen Chinook and Idaho 7 hops for this haunting twist of a classic West Coast base, best consumed in a wingback armchair by a roaring fire.

Can. A mild haze on this deepish amber beer, a decent but fairly short lived pale tan head. Smooth palate, a mild dryness, decent superfine minerally carbonation. Lovely malts, toffee caramel and a little malt cream but it's never gets too sweet. The mid delivers pleasant ripe fruits like a decent ESB. The back end is where Chinook comes into its own, that classic bitterish fresh citrus peel and marmalade go spectacularly well with the malt base. Idaho 7 slightly lost here, other than abundant cooling pine. Light crisp finish brings a little hop spice and leaves a wonderful juicy marmalade linger. Red DIPAs eh? Don't think this is a first but I don't think I have had a better one. The second stunner from Burnt Mill on the bounce.
