Keg at BD Shoreditch, 31/08/22. Black with a khaki head that retains well. Nose is nutty, dark malts, toffee, mellow roast. Taste comprises dark malts, dried fruit rinds, dusty cocoa powder, toffee, charr. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, drying close. Solid stout.

Keg draught at BrewDog Leicester. Its very dark brown, close to black, oil barrel opaque with a ring of khaki head. Meaty chocolate notes and some burned espresso on the aroma. Taste stays sweet for no time at all, then delivers a smoky bitterness which spreads on the tongue. More tobacco and very bitter chocolate on the fi ish and aftertaste. Surprisingly thin body, soft carbonation. Okay.

Keg at Brewdog Lothian Road. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of wood, leather, raisins and chocolate. Taste is more of the same. Dry finish.

On tap at Brewdog Lothian Road, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out dry oak, deep roast and a hint of booze. Flavour is bone dry, with lots of woody oak, heavy roast, and a hint of unsweetened dark cocoa. Dry and sturdy. This is quite old school, quite unlike the trendy pastry stouts that have dominated everything. Very good.

500ml bottle, many thanks to djoeye for sharing. One-finger thick head, coal black body, spotty lacing. Quite inviting smell of grainy chocolate and nuts. Cocoa-chocolate flavours with nuts and earth. Malt-driven end, dry and carefully roasted. Fine bodied. Nice one. (Rating session with lmojoh and djoeye, Tromsø 03.12.2020).
