Traditional, Malty, Amber Ale. Our amber coloured, malty bitter. An easy drinking rich amber coloured Best Bitter; full of malty character. This is our brewery tap brew... It is named after our historic brewery tap The Sportsman, in Newtown Powys, which was once the town lock up and the home of a great many tales. Bottle conditioned.

Bottle 500ml @ Geokkjer
Pours hazy amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, cooked vegetable, corn and raw carrots. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

Medium brown head. Brownish red body with floaties and carbonation. Fruity dusty wild berry aroma with chewing gum and strawberry notes. Dry-sweet earthy mealy fruity taste with roasty chewing gum notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish resiny earthy fruity aftertaste with herbal coffee and pea notes. Nice, quite drinkable, but ultimately the combination of flavours doesn’t quite work for me. (0.5l bottle, from Meny Oslo City.)

500ml bottle from Appleyards, Shrewsbury. Pours very dark brown, toasted malt nose, roasted flavours and dried fruits in the taste with a coal bitterness. Fairly thin bodied. Not bad.

Hand-pulled pint in The Pheasant, Wellington (Shropshire) on 3rd May 2014. Pours a dark reddy-brown with a chestnut hue, off-white crown. Semi-sweet malty molasses rule the nose and flavours with caramel notes to the fore. Hints of dark berries in the taste also. Decent enough, I like malty, fairly sweet brews.
