This special Hanabi beer features an heirloom grain variety named Haná that was originally used by Josef Groll to brew the world’s first Pilsner in 1842, in the city of Pilsen, in present day Czechia. Brought back from near extinction by British farmers in 2015, we source it from one of the only fields in the world where it can be found today, in Norfolk, England. Our Haná Pilsner is the rhythm section of our brewery and will be produced year-round. It represents the core of our house approach and style. Presented as a Pilsner style lager, this heritage barley brings aromatic notes of fresh wholegrain bread, nori, and dried spearmint, along with a long, fresh finish.

Bottle from Tavour: clean gold appearance with nice white head. Clean malt aroma (which is in the forefront), pleasantly hops are in background for sure. Some lemon. Not very grassy. Taste is malty and kind of sweet but not in the old beer kind of way. Clean. Bright even. I think I liked this more than the Egyptian Purple Barley, mostly because less sweet. Still a nice malt experience.

500mL undated bottle (2026) drunk 9/6/26.
Lovely yeast and grain here with a soft, dough-and-honey character accented with floral and fresh herb-like spice from the hop. Malt is fairly forward but not too rich/sweet/intense.
Nicely rich malt with cracker, biscuit, earth and doughy honey notes. Pinch of lemon and black pepper from the hop, but no huge bitterness, and the hop certainly lies in the background, allowing the focus on the malt, as it should be here. I think they've done a nice job of keeping this quite malty and satisfying, yet providing enough attenuation/bitterness to keep it dry enough and drinkable. It's also VERY carbonated, which, while a bit annoying, helps with the perceived dryness.
After my 2nd Hanabi, I can certainly say they are using and expressing very high quality ingredients/flavors/aromatics, but they're also just a touch, touch on the overly malty side. Wouldn't have hated a bit more attenuation on both that I've had thus far.

500ml bottle from Atkinsons- Ketchum. Marked addition #006. Opened with a big gush, probably because I was walking around with it. After that it pours a nice cloudy golden, abundant foamy head that fades down to a thin skin. Aroma is grainy, sweet, grassy. Taste is biscuity, sweet, bread with a sharpness at the back. Not bitter per se, but a pronounced flavor at the end . Velvety feel.

Bottle. Pours clear pale yellow, small white head, decent. Aroma is light grain, grass, hint of bread. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter. Light body. Odd aftertaste. This was a miss for me. 4,6,6,4,12
