Bottle from Beer Shop Hitchin. Just had a poor beer from the Fullers Advent Calendar and needed something special to cheer me. Great rich pour with a lovely head. Huge aroma of malt and hops which shows this is the perfect temperature. It's opening up the longer it's in the tankard. Huge rich malt with massive jagged hops alongside it. Very well balanced. And a taste that just lasts and lasts in the glass.

Bottle at home in Hackney - purchased at the brewery tap. Pours black-brown with a dense, creamy mocha cap. Medium sweet flavour with rich cocoa, ashy roast, burnt pine, dried citrus rind. Medium to full bodied with massaging carbonation, velvety texture. Ashy cocoa piney roast finish. Gorgeous. Superb balance. The consistency of this beer over the years is staggering.

Keg at Mother Arch III, 27/09/24. Pitch black with a tan head that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is big on roasted and dark malts, molasses, spice, chocolate shavings, dried fruit rinds. Taste comprises cocoa powder, roasted bite, liquorice, charr, fruit cake, earthy hop presence. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a kiss of alcohol at the curtain call. Solid.

Bottle from the Kernel webshop. It pours a handsome jet black with a significant deep brown head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, cacao nibs, rocky road, toasted pine, resin, coffee, liquorice allsorts, cherry and a toasty spice. The taste is pleasantly bitter upfront which lingers throughout, dark roasted malt, charred wood, umami, premium dark chocolate, touch green, piney, resinous, light tannin, espresso coffee, there is some fruitiness to it... some orange marmalade and cherry, light alcohol presence and toasted spice with a drying and deeply roasted finale. Fulsome body a d moderate, supportive carbonation. Robust, flavourful and yet somehow very drinkable. A rewarding experience.

Bottles from Against The Grain. Black body with a thick tan head. Low carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of red grape, roasted malt, espresso and pumpkin. Flavour of dark chocolate, pine, toasted sesame, cherry, ginger, mixed herbs and melon with a bitter, hoppy finish. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A rich and hoppy dark beer. No one does India Porters as well as The Kernel.
