Black Stout. A hearty, pitch black beer full of malty complexity. Very smooth, with a hint of Old English Toffee.

440ml from Tŷ Seidr, Aberystwyth. Poured almost black with a thin off-white head. The aroma is big toffee caramel. The flavour is over moderate sweet, light liqourice bitter, with a smooth, rich, roasty, toffee, light floral, liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Cask at The Last Heretic, Burton on Trent. Pours almost black with minimal white head. There’s fudge and toffee in the aroma. In the mouth it is fruity with dashes of the usual stout flavours, vanilla, liquorice and dark fruits. More uniquely it is sweet with treacle and golden syrup overtones. Reasonable enough, but a bit cloying.
