16oz can from Ratman! Nose is toffee, a hint of citrus, brown sugar, and biscuits! Rusty brown with a heavy lacing tan head. Flavor is moderately bitter with only a hint of sweetness and a slight hint of vanilla caramels.Pretty good barleywine!

Pint can. Pours s murky orange-brown color with a small beige head that recedes to a fine pond scum. Lots of floaties in the last pour. This really looks ugly--I adore that. The aroma is mild with grains, caramel and white fruits. The taste is grains, toffee, some bitter walnuts, bitter citrus pith and hot alcohol. The palate is medium in viscosity with soft carbonation. Finishes short and dry. Overall: Decent enough barleywine but lacking in complexity--this fell somewhat short of my sky high expectations. Paired well with some English's cheddar and chips.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear dark amber with a very large foamy beige/tan head. Aroma seems toffee with light pale stone fruit notes. Approaching full bodied. Flavor is very toffee. So toffee that the fruit is hard to parse; but it is there. Not dry, but not quite sticky. There's bitterness from something. Basically this is a malt monster that isn't really obnoxiously so. For unexplainable reasons I'm really liking this.

Pint can - turbid amber pour with a ton of floating particles - moderate off-white lace - low carbonation, soft texture - moderately to highly alcoholic, enough to suppress a lot of the potential malt complexities that wind up subdued and muddled (treacle, dark fruit, bread) - alcohol calms down in the finish, but there is mostly just a sugary sweetness on the tail end, anyway - muddy and disappointing.
