Our barrel-aged “Cocktail Series” continues with Kentucky Mule – our answer to the classic Moscow Mule cocktail, substituting Russia’s favorite spirit with Kentucky’s finest.
The journey of this beer began when we blended two equal lots of our signature Bravo brown ale and Helldorado blonde barley wine, both aged for 18 months in premium Kentucky bourbon barrels. We then infused this blend with hand-diced Fiji-grown ginger as well as fresh California lime zest and juice, perfectly accentuating the beer’s bourbon-inspired flavors of vanilla and maple syrup. The result is a true Moscow Mule-style sipping experience with a uniquely American twist.

Bottle at home shared with Laura. Red-brown color, virtually no head. Aroma is malts, lime and mint. Flavor is malts, lime, ginger as well but lime is more profoundly there, with a bourbon touch in the background. A bit boozy notes. A bit thin bodied. Hmm I think, for people who love lime and ginger this is a perfect brew, but that's not really my thing so not that good for me personnalt, but I think it actually is a pretty good brew.

Bottle. Nose is lime, ginger, vanilla, caramel, bourbon barrel. Smooth vanilla and caramel barley wine like flavors with bourbon barrel and ginger, lime. A strange but well made and fun unique creation.

$8.99 boxed bottle, TWG. 2021 vintage. Amber with a soft, yet cola-like head. Nose is bourbon, pencil shavings, nose-burning ginger, lime zest. Heavy ginger, caramel, raisin, barrel, lime - but not sour, bourbon. Very interesting and enjoyable.

A brown-red beer, a head is almost medium and beige. Aroma has dried fruits, apricot, also fresher fruitness, some citrus, bourbon, vanilla. Taste has dried fruitness, lime, bourbon, light barrel and maple syrup. Medium+ bodied, smooth. A very complex and quite weird blend again, but nicely balanced. I like this, no change to otherwise.

12 oz bottle from Firestone online. Nose is lime, ginger, toffee, and bourbon with a hint of oaky vanillin. Hazy rusty brown with a medium tan head. Flavor is a little Smirnoff mule mixed with a bunch of Bourbon Barrel Helldorado.

I have to admit that I have enjoyed the FW series of cocktail-tasting beers. I found Kentucky Mule at Total Wine in Ft. Worth over the Thanksgiving weekend. Never had a real Kentucky Mule, this should be enlightening. I have my Teku in place for the pour and find a dark caramel brown body followed by a steadily renewed head of light tan foam. The scent is something herbal and barley winish. A drink now, so that is what a Kentucky Mule tastes like. Or at least similar. I get the ginger first and foremost, booze, lime, grain and a bit of cane sweetness. Less a fan of the taste than I am the effort. The other cocktail beers have been better in my opinion.
