Our Monsters beers are parti-gyles: brewed with the richer, stronger wort from early in the brewing process. We hop and ferment them accordingly!

This is a strong brown ale in a loosely historical style, inspired by the 1917 recipe for out Stout, Valour. Brown malt is usually used as an accent in modern brewing, at 5-10% of the grain bill; we went for a nice 30%, which gives it a rather rich and distinctive heft and depth.

Malty and smooth. So good!

11th November 2022 Clear deep amber brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Softish smooth malts, a little malt cream goes well with dark toffee that isn't that sweet. Touch of dark chocolate Malteasers and a whisper of ripe fruits. Some alcohol spice on the light finish. This is a solid Impy Brown but as so often with Torrside, slightly let down by some weird off flavours, in this case a bit of petrol on the nose, less so on the tongue. Still liked this despite the unwelcome distractions. Ps the petrol burns off a bit as the beer breathes.

Bottle, online from Hoptimism. Pours unclear dark brown with a thin tan cap. Aroma: malty, caramel, brown sugar. Taste: light to moderate sweet & moderate bitter, toasted malt, caramel, toffee, nuts, dried fruits, warming alcohol on the finish. Medium body with light carbonation. Lovely hefty brown ale

Bottles from House Of Trembling Madness and Thirst Class Ale. Dark brown body with ruby highlights and a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of caramel and malt loaf. Flavour of toffee and roasted malt. Medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. Strong and sweet. It’s very nice and has improved from seven months in the bottle (3.5 in December 2021, 3.9 in June 2022). I think this will get even better with age.

Opaque beer, thin head. Smells rich and malty with a little sugar. Tastes malty with dried fruit, a hit of boozy warmth, a little nutty and with maybe a hint of caramel in there too. Nice, hefty brown ale. Boozy without sacrificing the taste. Lovely.
