Sept. 2020: 500 ml bottle, from Superbrugsen Hirtshals. ABV is 6.0%. Hazy orange colour, large white head. Moderate aroma of citrussy hops, hints of spruce. Fairly well balanced flavour, first a slightly sweet fruitiness, followed by a distinct bitterness, quite sharp in the finish.

clear dark orange to golden, small orange head. sweet malty, caramelly, syruppy aroma, some dusty hops, quite bittersweet, not at all dry. aroma is more sort of like a double-ipa than a crisp fresh ipa. But then - it reminds me well enough of english style india pale ale and that's what the bottle says, so you could argue it is quite true to style, just don't expect an american ish ipa. flavor is quite bitter, hops bitterness dominates, then some malty sweetness and bitterness, then flowers and dried fruits ending with alcohol bitterness and hop bitterness. Not bad, but does taste like it has been stored for too long, although probably produced may 12th and consumed july 25th. same year. considering 5 gaarde is usally on the cheap end of supermarket macro brews, this is okay for the money, you could run into worse 6% beers than this one. If you like english india pale ale you might even enjoy it a bit.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a hazy golden with a neat, white head. Slightly spicy flowery nose. Medium body, floral and fruity again with a spicy rather than aromatic hoppiness - absolutely no citrus or tropical notes, if that was what you'd expected. Instead you get a rarther harsh in-your-face late bitterness. Not exactly a state of the art interpretation of the style! 240919

Body is oily with medium carbonation. Finish is long and mostly bitter with notes of spruce, pine, grapefruit, caramel and resin. Mostly good with lots of fruit and bitterness but also some unpleasant acrid notes.
