A massive 16.5% abv Barleywine that’s been sleeping in Elijah Craig barrels for the last 15 months. We woke this sleeping brute and fed it “mounds” of cacao, almonds and coconut. Resulting in a absolute beast of a Barleywine! Collaboration with our family at Mason Ale Works.

Can from Brew Cavern, Notts. Aroma is malty, very much so. Boozy edge. Opaque dark chestnut. Thin bubbly brown head. Rich and malty, with dark fruits. Boozy but not intrusive. Medium bodied. Slick. Average carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Good stuff to swig at a street party.

Tan collar on a still black body. Huge aroma of bourbon, raisin & vanilla. Medium to full bodied, smooth as oil & very likely carbonated on the back. Malt, raisin, almond, bourbon & liquorice tastes. That's a big hitter.

1 pint can. Pours a very dark brown with little head. Aromas of boozy bourbon, nougat, oak, toffee, coconut, and sweet bready malts. Flavors of sweet bourbon, caramel, coconut, chocolate nougat, more sweet bready malts. Very nice mix, but the stupidity of putting a 16.5% beer in a tall can gets a few points knocked off. Bottles that can be resealed our small cans is the way to go for this type of big beer…

Tasting at Chez Bois. Thanks to the group. Hazy semi opaque dark brown beer, a few pale tan bubbles. Smooth palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, good dark chocolate malts and dark chocolate malteasers. Light coconut. Fruity bourbon on the back end. Belies the abv completely.

Dark brown. No head. Massive vanilla character on the palate, and the aroma is more on the coconut side of things. The body is thick and oily, and the bourbon is dominant. The base beer seems fairly generic. So a big bourbon bomb with a coconut nose. I don't seem to get much in terms of the almonds or cacao.
