An amber ale with a name reflecting that the Salcombe Ria is a haven for both British species of Seahorse. A sweet and smooth ale with a gentle spicy hop character, hints of burnt caramel and a smoked malty finish.

Bottle on 6th December 2025, received as gift. Pours slightly hazy, active copper with shallow, diminishing yellowy white foam and spot lacing. Malty aroma. Sweet berries, leafy hops and maltiness in-mouth with notes of smoke. Fruity finish. Medium bodied with an engaging mouthfeel.

Loose off white head on a clear reddish brown coloured body. Fruity, berry & malt aroma. Medium bodied, soft & lively on the back. Malt, tobacco, berry & caramel tastes with a lightly hopped bitter finish. Nicely balanced.

Cask at the Cornfield Exchange, Eastbourne. Poured a mostly clear medium amber colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is sweet malt. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter, with a smooth, yeasty, herbal, light sweet toffee, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Ok, but way too sweet for a session.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] A hazy amber pour with a tight cream head; biscuity malt aroma; creamy in the mouth with a berry fruit taste and a bready body; then a dry finish with more tart berries. Unattractive but tasty.

Cask-conditioned at the Robert Fitzharding (JDW), Bedminster 3/4/2024. Pale amber in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. A touch of leafy hops, stone fruit, biscuity malts, leading to a moderately bitter finish. Fine.

50cl Fles van Tesco Axminster. Helder amber kleur, witte kraag. Licht bloemig, caramel, toffee, zacht, redelijk bitter, licht moutig. Lichte body. Prima, zij het aan de saaie kant.
