Festive Star. For our celebration of the Christmas holiday spirit, we took our smooth drinking and robustly flavoured Northern Star mocha porter and jazzed it up with classic warm winter spices, namely cinnamon and nutmeg. Festive Star is basically the equivalent of mulled wine in beer form, only brewed with roasted barley and coffee beans. So sit back, cosy up with your loved ones and crack a few open to make your merriest memories of the year.

Bottled (as Festive Star Xmas Mocha Porter). Rubyish brown colour with a mediumsized beige head. Aroma is spiced, some slight roasted and toffeeish notes with mild nuttiness and coffee. Flavour is coffee, some dried fruits, mild roasted and spicy notes along with some wooden and mild chocolate as well.

Lots of dark chocolate. English hedgerow fruits. Some marzipan and caramel. Festive spices which don't really work for me. Lots of cinnamon. Dry chocolate finish. Coffee grains. Bitter. A little astringent. Not their best. --- Beer merged from original tick of Festive Star on 28 Dec 2018 at 23:17

Keg at the Southampton Arms, London on 16th August 2019. Rated as a novelty ale. Thick sepia brown with pale tan foam and spot lacing. Intense coffee and bitter chocolate aroma. Rich and intense spiciness in-mouth, with smoked paprika, aniseed, liquorice and plum fruitiness. A return to bitter chocolate in the finish. Medium bodied with a zingy mouthfeel. Superb!

Can: Poured a black with a tan head. Aroma is rich chocolate and malt with some light spice. Taste is spice latte up front that pretty much ruins this for me.

Can from Cotteridge Wines and shared in Kuala Lumpur. Poured a murky dark brown colour with little life: The aroma is roasty malt, chocolate, coffee. The flavour is moderate sweet with a light, watery, sweet sugary, light lactose, light mint, chocolate palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.
