New Alvinne sour with eucalyptus – a combination I don’t think I have encountered before (and which installed a certain amount of suspicion in me, to be honest)… Thanks Luís for the bottle! Snow white, very fluffy but regularly shaped, pillowy head, slowly dissipating over a hazy ‘lemon yellow’ golden beer. Aroma of indeed eucalyptus, but not so much in the cough syrup-like way I was fearing, rather a very herbal, ‘dark green’, expressive scent as if you would make tea from fresh eucalyptus leaves; it blends with notes of bergamot, piccalilli, ‘Roosvicée’ and rosehip tea, cucumber, rhubarb pie, exotic citrus fruit, pumice, sourdough, jasmin, lime blossom, basil, sweet white wine – unusual, clearly, but highly fragrant, herbal and inviting. Sour onset, green gooseberries, sour apples and rhubarb, sharper lemony edge even, yoghurty lactic sourness, medium carb, rounded fluffy bready malt basis with a chalky and thickly soapy edge to it; some bread crust yeastiness in the end, embedded in drying sourness, but everything is – unsurprisingly – drenched in this zesty, herbal, leafy, bright green, tea-ish eucalyptus fragrance, a bit ‘minty’ even. That typical soft chalky note identifying this as a Berliner Weisse for me, lingers in the background after swallowing. Weird, but highly interesting and original, a bit challenging perhaps to a larger audience, but again clearly establishing Alvinne as a still innovative, artistic brewery of some of the best sour ales in the world. Enjoyed it a whole lot more than I was expecting, really…

Säuerlicher, spritzig würziger Beginn. Vollmundig, die Säure ist natürlich, intensiv, langer Nachgeschmack. Gut. 10/13/13/13//12
