An Imperial Dessert Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels with Cacao, Cinnamon and Cayenne Pepper.

I can only ever catch glimpses of them, but they are there in my peripheral vision. They will get me if I make a mis-step. This imperial dessert stout was blended in the style of a spiced hot chocolate using organic fair trade cacao by Camino in Ottawa, grown by small-scale farmers in Peru and the Dominican Republic. We spiced it up with a pinch of cinnamon and cayenne pepper.

Blended in collaboration with our friends at Temporal Artisan Ales.

The cacao in this beer tends to settle to the bottom. To enjoy this beer with its intended mouthfeel, we recommend storing it upside-down and giving it a good shake, rattle and roll before opening. Don't worry, the carbonation is pretty low so it shouldn't geyser on you, but maybe let it sit for a minute after mixing :)

Can: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a small dark brown foamy head with some retention and some lacing notes. Aroma of chocolate malt notes with loads of cinnamon and cayenne pepper with hints of residual sugar notes. Taste is also a mix of chocolate malt notes with some faint bourbon notes and tons of cinnamon with some cayenne pepper. Body is full and good carbonation with no real discernible alcohol notes. Enjoyable but too much cinnamon and not enough bourbon notes being discernible.

A murky dark brown stout with no head. In aroma, beautiful mix of sweet chocolate pudding, cinnamon, chili, light vanilla, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, licorice, vanilla, cinnamon, alcohol warmth, very nice and smooth.
