Draught at the brewery, 3/23/17.
A light mahogany with ruddy copper and amber tones, a good clarity and a beige head atop showing moderate retention.
Heavily bready in the nose and almost smelling oxidized. Lots of nuttiness, some sourdough, other varied grains and lots of toasted malt character mixing with a hint of melanoidin-like acidity. Not as richly malted as I’d like or expect.
In the mouth it’s again very bready and surprisingly thin. Husky, astringent specialty malts quickly fatigue the palate and no base malt remains to support/balance it. Moderate carbonation and no flaws, but what the hell happened to the malty texture you know and love from CBC??
