Raisin, dark chocolate nose. Black, medium tan head. Dark chocolate, nougat, charred oak, coffee, vanilla. A brief appearance of blueberry. Full body, easy carbonation, alkaline. Lots of depth and complexity without being a carnival show of additives. Very well crafted.

On tap at Bayberry, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out light lactose, with dry toasted malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with medium toasted malt and loads of lactose. Nicely balanced, with a pleasantly sweet finish. Very good.

Draft at Five Horses Tavern. Aroma is roasty, chocolate. Flavor shows mild chocolate, light sweetness, lactose doesn’t show. Good medium plus body and creamy mouth for 5.5%. Caution: Contains lactose!

Pours a very nice near black from a tap, thick khaki head with small bubbles lasts. Sweet roasty coffee and caramel aroma, similar flavor, very sweet. Full round mouthfeel as expected for an oatmeal stout. Pretty good beer.

Pours a dark, cola-black, with smallish, tan head. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, roasted grain, perhaps just a touch of dark fruit. Flavor is pretty smooth, with chocolate, coffee, roasted grain. Quite a sweet beer. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Canned 10/26/16, drunk 12/21/16.
Large, light-tan head tops a dark, mahogany and ebony body with seemingly good clarity. Retention is strong.
Big lactose-driven nose has strong earthy and acidic elements behind the sweet and bready sugars. Cola, treacle, vanilla and malted milk balls with too much bread, sugar and acidity.
Same in the flavor with too much breadiness, acidity and stale roast. Caramel and creme brulee mix with dry vanilla. Soft textures and appropriate carbonation but I don’t like the lactose here at all. Seems far too dominant.
