On draught at the brewery, 9/13/16, listed as a Belgian Session IPA.
High clarity in this bright, polished-gold beer. Medium-sized, white head atop shows moderately-strong retention.
Lovely hop character to the nose mixes with the Belgian character, but it’s pretty low on the esters and limited to mostly light tropical fruits and lots of pepper. The lush, green, rather spicy hops add very light pine, grapefruit juice and lots of stonefruit. Light juiciness to it, with no resinous character. Malts are mostly there to support, giving a biscuity-crackery impression but adding no real "sweetness". No alcohol or flaw.
Light-bodied, with high attenuation and ample, engaging carbonation. Some very minor wheat-like suggestions help soften things and the hops add all sorts of citrus and tropical fruit notes, with lots of nectarine, peach, lime and even light pine. Big peppery phenol notes from the yeast linger pleasantly and a touch of honey-like maltiness makes itself known on the finish, with some warming. Very nice, elegant stuff with no resin or alcohol (and no obnoxious esters).
