330ml bottle. Clear, orangey golden colour with small to average, frothy, slowly fading, white head. Herbal-spicy, tangy, slightly lactic aroma. Taste is tart, tangy, herbal-spicy and slightly unspecific fruity, some chlorophyll, a lactic touch. Balanced, harmonious - nice.

Sour ale making use of young shoots of wild weeds common here in Western Europe, interesting idea but many things can go wrong with it... Snow white, bubbly, regular head fizzing away to as good as nothing in instants, hazy, pale straw blonde robe with greenish hue - at least the colour seems to fit the idea... Oddly enough, so does the nose: very floral and weedy but in a good, delicately aromatic way; apart from the ground ivy, which has a very distinctive odour and subtly peeps through, I get things like lemonbalm, meadowsweet, clover flowers, fresh camomile, freshly cut nettles, giant hogweed juice amidst more familiar impressions - from a beery point of view at least - of lime flesh, raw rhubarb, green apple, dry white wine, bread crumbs, honey and (proportionally strong) chalk. Sweetish apple, starfruit and unripe banana note in the onset surrounded by a crisp, lactic, almost citric sourness, drying but nowhere harshly puckering, a bit yoghurty, with finely tingling carb and a smooth, lean, slender, soapy mouthfeel. Slick white bread-like maltiness with ongoing citric sourishness (lime) is soon adorned with a colourful, refreshingly 'green' addition of herbal and weedy notes, nothing wry or unpleasant here - apparently only the 'good', flattering, delicate properties of said weeds have been retained. The combination of this with the sourness lends this peculiar little beer a sorrel- and nettle juice-like quality, with delicately blossomy field flower notes on top (camomile, clover, meadowsweet, elderblossom even). Wheaty soapiness and a remarkably strong chalk-like flavour linger in the end. Quite a unique beer, very delicate and refreshing, not too sour nor too sweet, subtle enough not to shock and to remain elegant and fragile. Interesting idea indeed - much better executed than I was expecting. More refined than Wild Beer's Spring edition of Rooting Around too (tasted right after this one - see my review of that one, following a similar idea, under the corresponding entry). Both, however, fit a warm spring evening perfectly.

Hackney Bottleshare. Thanks to Fergus. Wow! A Sour/Wild from Redchurch shocker! Light haze on this pale yellowish gold beer, small white head. Dry palate with reasonable carbonation. Generic tangy fruits. Some yeasty twang. Light fruity finish. It's fine.

Bottle bought online from Ales by Mail. Pours hazy pale golden with hardly any head. Nose is tart, herbal, lemony. On the taste it's moderately acidic with lemon, lime, lemongrass & hay. Dry herbal lemony finish. Light bodied, gentle yet spritzy carbonation. Not bad but there are better UF beers than this
