A light and refreshing ale crafted with Harlequin hops for a hint of tropical fruit on the nose, and Cascade hops for the perfect balance of bitterness. All rounded off with a crisp clean finish.

Botte at home, thanks to MND, 31/01/2026.
Clear golden topped with a moderate white cap.
Nose is pale malts, straw, grains, biscuit, herb.
Taste comprises stewed fruit, trace of honey, grains, herb, floral whisper.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Bland and boring ... but I knew that!

Loose white head left a creamy top on a slowly carbonating golden coloured body.
1970s traditional Bitter aroma.
Medium bodied, nicely carbonated with a clean back.
Pale malt, biscuit, caramel & citrus tastes with a zesty bitter finish.
Not bad - nicely balanced & refreshing.

'Hen' is a 400 year old Scottish term for a lady, more widely known in the term 'hen party'. Probably not one you want too much at a party, it's a little dull for that but a quieter session then it's not bad, with a more dominant hop than malt billing, both are evident. There's a mid-bitterness attached to this traditional styled beer.

Can from Lidl. Sweet nose. Clear gold. Thin. Just enough going for it to make it drinkable.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from the local big Tesco. Pours crystal clear pale gold with a foamy, white head. Light sweet flavour, some pale bread, dough, grass, cabbage, hay, grain. Light bodied with average carbonation. OK balance to finish, more doughy biscuits, bitter straw. Has that pasteurised vibe about it, some cabbage. Is what it is. Drinkable.

500ml bottle from Morrisons. Poured a crystal clear golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, woody hops. The flavour is moderate bitter with a light, fresh, somewhat smooth, light toffee, malt, light herbal, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium to light bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Clear 500ml bottle from a local Morrisons store: Drank at home on 14th May 2024. Clean and clear light golden body, white head that soon turns into a wisp and collar. Watered down Old Speckled Hen really, but fairly hop bitter I suppose.

[50cl bottle from Morrisons, Bracknell.] A pale amber pour with a thick white head; spicy hop aroma; sweet biscuity malt body with some fruit and hedgerow hops; then a fresh hoppy finish with lingering caramel. Basically a lower ABV version of Old Speckled Hen.
