Commissioned 'Belgian IPA' executed by Martens in Bocholt under a separate '1758' label, bottle from Drinkshall Geenen in Balen. Fluffy, thick, egg-white, mousy, membrane-lacing, very stable head over a more or less clear, warm 'old gold' coloured beer with orangey tinge and a storm of swirling bubbles everywhere, turning into a deeper, misty orangey peach with sediment. Aroma of yellow grapefruit peel, bitterroot, dry old 'herbes de Provençe', bread crust, unripe peach, dried apricot, wormwood leaves, pineapple, bitter honey, orange flesh. Crisp, fruity onset, pineapple, apricot and red apple notes, fizzy and very minerally carbonation, bit stinging; smooth cereally malt body, very lightly caramelly, leading to a medium long finish with retronasal orange peel, wormwood and dried thyme aromas, bitter yet not very harshly so and thus maintaining a kind of 'Belgian compromise' and balance with the malts; still some rooty, late, lingering hop bitterness in the end, along with a light breadiness after adding the sediment. Very Belgian indeed: a bunch of New World hop varieties used relatively sparsely, though just enough to add pleasant, 'modern' grapefruity and spicy aromas and a lingering end bitterness. More a hop-forward Belgian blonde than a true IPA, but within that segment, admittedly very well done, even exemplary.

Bottle from Prik&Tik Tongeren. Hazy amber colour, white foam. Fruity hoppy nose, some peach and papaya, citrussy, bitter finish. Not a bad one from Martens.
