Draft at Ashland ale house during trivia. Amber pour sudsy head. Nose is Christmas slicing. Tatses of ginger, orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar. Grains and malt. Light bodied. Interesting

16oz can at the DC beer share. Amber. No head. Oxidized malt and baking spice. Spice takes over and there's a big apple pie thing. Off dry and flabby. 5 5.5 5.5 5

Some ginger and some nutmeg. Mostly garbage. Watery. Dark copper pour without much head. Light sweetness and cloying flavour. Can.

16oz can at the DCBeer May share. Poured a orange/amber color without much of a head to speak of. Aroma was big herbal notes, lots of age on this one. Can might have been old. Huge spice, very herbal.

On tap at ABC Beer Co, pours a hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma has lots of sprucey notes, earthiness, and toasted bready malt. Flavour has lightly sweet, sprucey notes, toasted bready malt, and some earthiness. Lightly sweet and winter spicy finish. Solid.

Drinking this Christmas Lager is interesting. Lots going on. I dig the ginger and nutmeg. Orange peel is okay. It took a lot of swishing in my mouth to pull out the Rye. Overall, it fits the festive season rather well. Jack's Abby usually means quality.
Not much head retention, almost no lacing.
Canned October 29th.

16 ounce can. Copper orange pour. Moderate beige head dissipates quickly to a scant ring. Subtle aroma of sweet honey, orange and cinnamon. Flavor is slightly reminiscent of chai tea. Orange, nutmeg, cinnamon and black tea. Some earthy grain as well. An interesting take on a holiday brew.

Brewery draught, 11/1/14. Clear dark brown with chestnut. Small, beige head. Spicy nose with good maltiness and not too much acid or astringency it seems. Spicy again, but tasteful with plentiful brown sugar and fresh bread character from the malt. Well-homogenized, clean and properly attenuated.
