With this stout, we wanted a smooth, silky mouthfeel, plenty of roast malt character and a balanced sweetness. So that’s what we did. Pouring inky black, we get coffee and burnt chocolate on the nose, joined by chewy caramel and biscuit on the palate, then a nutty-sweet finish.

440ml can. Poured almost black in colour with a very short-lived, fizzy tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, light caramel. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter, light sweet, with a light, slightly watery, smooth, caramel, light ashtray, light liquorice bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with lively carbonation.

Due to the fact that I was unable to use Ratebeer for several months and because of technical reasons, no detailed evaluation is possible.

Black with quite a soapy head for a keg pour. Served too cold at Terminal 2 in Manchester. Roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Thinnish mouthfeel and too gassy. Base flavour is good.

Keg @ Square Chapel, Halifax. Black with a light-brown creamy-smooth head. Smooth with notable caramel in its flavour reducing its roasted notes. Very good all the same.
