One in a series of four Imperial Stouts inspired by the skill and finesse of master chocolatiers. A fine blend of young beer, which spent two months in a first-fill Port barrel, and mature beer, aged 20 months in a cherry wine barrel.
This edition received additions of cacao and chile de árbol.
Made with time and love at Cloudwater.

Bottle online from the source sometime ago. Pours deep brown towards black with a dissipating deep tan cap. Huge cacao character on the aroma and taste, rich with some port barrel vibes, light spicy finish. Medium+ body with fine carbonation. A very decent chocolate bomb.

375ml bottle. Jet black colour with small to average, thick, creamy, rapidly diminishing, brown head. Intense, BA supported, roasty and chocolately, dark malty as well as slightly vinous, fruity aroma, notes of dark caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa, couverture, raisin, sultana, plum, Port, hints of almond, praline, a touch of rum and cherry. Taste is vinous fruity, slightly alcoholic, roasty, chocolately, dark and caramel malty, notes of dark caramel, dried fruit, alcohol soaked dried fruit, raisin, plum, some cherry, sweet dark chocolate, cocoa, chocolate sauce, praline, hints of Port, a touch of rum. Alcohol thinned, viscous texture, smooth, soft and silky, minimally cloying palate, very fine, soft carbonation. Surprisingly light and fresh, neither too sweet nor heavy due to the fruity aspects - very good!

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours black-brown with a cascading, foamy mocha topping. Medium to big sweet flavour, nice layered dark chocolate, raisins, a little toasted wood. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, a little sticky, slight pepper, loads of bittersweet dark chocolate, dried dark fruits, mellow earthy bitterness. Excellent.

Bottle. Nose is dark chocolate, chocolate cake, coco nibs, plum, dark fruit, spice, chili pepper, soft cherry and a touch of strawberry. Taste is dark chocolate, roast, dark fruit, balanced but rich port note, chocolate ice cream, plums, dark fruit, fruit cake, slight vinous note, chili gives a slight warming buzz in the finish which stops it being cloying. I could find the port, but the cherry wine was harder to detect, and was perhaps reflective in the wider rich fruit profile. I've become tired of imperial stouts with so many poor ones around, but this is very very good indeed.

Panda at home, thanks to Fergus, 31/07/21. Deep black with a moderate tan cap that soon evaporates. Nose is decadent chocolate, dried fruits, mellow roast, modest port barrel note, light roast, dates, figs, brown sugar melt. Taste comprises chocolate fondant, molasses, brown sugar melt, sweet malts, light spice, hint of Cointreau (dunno why), liquid fruit cake. Full bodied, fine carbonation with an oily feel, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Another top notch impy stout from CW ... pay a good price for good ingredients and you get this liquid luxury in your glass!

Bottle. CW online shop. Pours slick. Sits almost black. Fine, dense, leggy tan head. Nose has cherry liqueur. Dark chocolate cherry truffle. Whiff of smoke. Chocolate ice cream. Touch of oak. Taste is a little sweet and fruity. Nice cherry character here. Smooth mouthfeel on a par with melted ice cream. Rich and sticky. Super fine carbonation lifts the stickiness. Bit of tart cherry on the finish. Nailed it. Fantastic.

Bottle at home from CW online. Pours jet black with a dirty tan head that fades away but clings on. Aroma is chocolate, cherry, fudge, hint of chilli, jammy red fruits. Taste is chocolate and cherry, cocoa, a hint of chilli, fudge. Lovely chocolate and cherry finish. So decadent, not too sweet, just a hint of booze, like a good chocolate brownie covered with cherry lacquer. Top class stuff
