"Need a Hug" is an Appalachian Wild Ale brewed w/ local barley & local raw wheat, boiled w/ burlap-aged hops. Fermented w/ our mixed house cultured in stainless steel. Transferred into oak for 4-6 months of aging. Transferred out onto a massive amount of local blueberries in June 2018. Fermented & aged on berries for 3-4 months & transferred into red wine barrels. We did this part a little differently this year. Opposed to adding all of the elderberries into the blueberry tank, we did a separate fermentation with only our barrel-aged sour base and the elderberries. This allowed a greater ability to blend to our desired outcome. Each beer matured in the wine barrels for an additional 6 months.

MBCC. Hazy deep red with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, blueberries, wood and tart. Flavor is quite sweet and rather acidic. Dry and rather acidic finish. 130517

Sampled at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2017. Hazy ruby pour with a pink head. Tap @MBCC2017, Red Session. Cloudy red, pinkish head. Barn aroma, wet cow. Flavour has red berries and more cow. Bittersweet, dry.

0,05l from tap shared by / with the crew during mbcc red session. very nice redish cloudy color, small pink head. smells bit leathery, grassy, light berry notes, nice smell. medium body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of grapes, wood, very grassy dry, bit citric, light leather, some berries. finishes very dry and medium sour with notes of grapes, wood, citrus and some leather. nice one but a bit too sour / vinegarish for me, overall still very nice one though 7, 4, 7, 3, 16

Sampled @ Mikkeller Beer Celebration 2017, Red Session. Sehr trübes rötlich pinkes Bier. Geruch ist trocken säuerlich fruchtig, holzig, Kirschen. Geschmack ist säuerlich fruchtig, rote Beeren, Kirschen, holzig, pelzig.

Deep red colored. Mbcc, red session. Sour, but honey sweet at the same time. Red berries. Flavor has red berries, some blueberries, funk, sourness. Ok.

Draught @ MBCC 2017. Pours deep dark reddish with a smooth head. Aroma of tart berries, farmyard,sourness and lactic notes. Taste is intensely sour, funky and earthy with some cherries, berries and tart fruits. Finish is sour and funky with some tart berries. Okay.
